WILDFIRE DETECTION and COMMUNICATION

The Importance for Early Wildfire Detection

The western wildfires of 2003 confirmed once again that, despite considerable efforts to improve wildfire survivability of red zone homes, losses just continue to grow.  Why?  Because we rarely succeed in stopping wind-driven wildfires in drought conditions.  So much is at stake that leaving detection of these fires to chance seems almost negligent.  The Fire Scout X3 Wildfire Sensor or the FireALERT Wildfire Detector eliminates the chance for negligence by providing early detection and communication of a wildfire event.

The FireALERT Wildfire Detector

The FireALERT uses a patented infrared sensor scanning unit that rotates through a 360 degree horizontal plane looking for a wildfire signature.  An onboard computer is able to filter out the possibility of false alarms before transmitting an alarm directly to the local fire department and/or homeowner.  Simultaneous with the execution of the alarm, the FireALERT can activate a Firebreak Spray System, the automatic system based on compressed air and stored fire retardant.

              Features and Benefits
  • No false alarms
  • Requires no AC power, batteries or water pressure
  • Wireless transmission
  • Operates day or night
  • Any weather conditions
  • Extremely durable
  • Proven, patented technology
  • Unattended operation
  • Detects a small fire over 1/4 mile from your property!
1. Upon fire detection a signal is sent to a low-orbiting satellite.
2. The satellite transmits the signal to the nearest fire station or homeowner.
3. Simultaneously, the FireALERT sends a signal to activate the protection system.

The necessary valves are opened remotely and within minutes your home and property will be coated with the same fire retardant, minus the red dye, used by aerial bombers for protection from an approaching wildfire.

FIRE SCOUT X3 Wildfire Sensor

The Fire Scout X3 is a flame sensor capable of detecting wildfires up to 1/2 mile away, depending on the size of the fire, by recognizing the ultraviolet signature of flames.  It can be used to automatically activate the Firebreak Spray System on approach of a fire protecting a home or property for days.

Because there are no moving parts in the Fire Scout X3 makes it extremely reliable and it can run for years on battery power. Each unit continuously monitors a nearly hemispherical field of view. Nearby barbeques or other known flames can easily be ignored simply by placement of blinders to obscure that part of the field of view.

Where full 360 degree monitoring is required, up to four X3’s can be placed to guarantee full coverage. This permits sensitivity to be reduced in the direction of nearby homes, for example, yet maximized in the direction of forest or open space.  The use of separate sensors to monitor the north, south, east and west sectors also keeps chimneys or close trees from blocking the view.

The Fire Scout X3 is unobtrusive so it will not detract from the look of your home.  If desired, the X3 can be made to sound an audible warning inside your home prior to activation of the Firebreak Spray System.  If you’re home you can decide if the fire warrants immediate system activation or just a 911 call.  However, if you’re away, the X3 can automatically activate your Firebreak Spray System when the fire threat exceeds the threshold you’ve chosen. You can even separately adjust the X3’s sensitivity to nearby fires versus distant fires.
